Fury U14 Boys Nike Champions at the Rush Nike Champions Cup
May 2-3, 2009
The U14 Boys Nike team visited Central Florida and returned home wearing championship medals around their necks and enthusiastic about the great experience. The boys coached in Apopka by Andres Bolivar performed excellently in all aspects; technical, physical, mental, self motivation, and team work. Most importantly they showed great heart in every game, providing a great spectacle of soccer
They made a mistake in the first game and lost 1-0, but after a small adjustment, the next three games were victories; 3-2, 8-0 and the last game 1-0 against Sunrise. The group of kids who were chosen at tryouts last year became a strong Soccer Team of young men. Everyone appreciates the importance of each other and their trust in one another, that’s the key to their success and also reflects the fantastic job of the coach. It was such a great moment see “Cesar” back on the field after almost a year, due to his surgery, and Fernando finally as part of the Team. Now it’s time to move forward to the next level.
Congratulations Team, keep on this way, We are so proud of you guys!!!! Says: Assistant Coach Gustavo Martinez

Weston’s U15 Girls Nike, “Palm Bay Champions”
May 3, 2009
Coaches Patti Barney and Dale Renwick took their Weston Fury U15 Girls Nike Team to Melbourne, where they came away with their third tournament title this season. The competition in the Palm Bay Spring Challenge was tough; however, the name of the game for this tournament was DEFENSE, DEFENSE and more DEFENSE. In most tournaments everyone speaks or writes of the goals, and of the great plays and players who score them. Often defenses go unnoticed and receive little to no glory. In this tournament the Nike girls defensive team did a phenomenal job, worthy of recognition. Anchored by their goal-keeper, Clara Rivera, the girls gave up just one goal while the offense scored 10 goals against their opponents.
The Nike team’s first match was against the Space Coast Storm in which they prevailed by a score of 2-0. The defense which consisted of Alina Avalos and Adriana Rosario as the outside backs, stopper Caroline Fernandez and Angela Zarrilli at sweeper, took care of business clearing anything that came their way. The girls next opponent was Central Florida United; a team named “Total Kaos”. This game lived up to its opponent’s name since the Nike offense was totally in control, yet after countless attempts remained ahead by only one goal. Kaos did manage to score with less than two minutes remaining, tying the game, and scoring the only goal of the tournament against the stingy Nike defense. The next opponent was the Maitland Rage who felt the fury of a determined Weston team which beat them by a score of 3-0.
The championship game against the Rockledge Steelers matched up two past rivals. The Nike defense held the Steelers to a first half 0-0 tie. However, in the second half the Nike offense was on fire. Four goals were scored in the second half, one each from Nicole Milstein and Jessica Thornton and two goals from Jaclyn Stermer. The ball practically never made it to the Weston Fury side of the field, thanks to the relentless pressure and dominant play provided by the midfielders Katie Haimes, Danielle Horgan, Kate Jacobsen, Steffi Maiman, Alexis Tebo, Meghan Peltier and Morgan McMillen. Congratulations to our Weston Fury Nike Girls U15 team and in specific to our Coaches Patti Barney and Dale Renwick for another victorious tournament.

Tournament Statistics
Goals: Horgan (1), Milstein (2), Peltier (1), Stermer (3), Thornton (3)
Assists: (6) one each by Haimes, Horgan, Milstein, Peltier, Stermer, Tebo
Shutouts: Rivera (3)

The game was competitive and after being so close to winning other tournaments the Inter Milan team did finally finish victorious, players and parents were so happy. The boys played as a team; passing, taking on players, finishing plays and celebrating one another’s success. It was great to see two Weston teams in the final and we want to congratulate Coach Henry and the Juventus team on a game well played. We also want to thank the parents because without their commitment this would not be possible.

April 18-19, 2009
Weston Fury U-11 Boys Swoosh has surprised their competition all year long. This past weekend was no exception at "The Miami Lakes Shootout" tournament. First beating Division II rivals Miramar Strikers 2-1, who had the most wins for the 2008-09 session, followed by a strong win against Doral Soccer Club with a 4-2 victory. Sunday was no less exciting with an early 5-0 win against Coral Gables Storm. The finals were played out in the heat of the day between Coral Gables Toros and Weston Fury Swoosh. Fury U10 Boys Manchester United Team Champions at the Miami Lakes Shoot Out
April 18-19, 2009
In preparation for next year the Weston U10 Boys Manchester United team decided to challenge themselves and play in the U11 Division 2 bracket at the Miami Lakes Tournament. With no expectations the team was ready for whatever team they came across in their bracket.
The first game was a good match against the home team from Miami Lakes. Weston came out victorious with a score of 4-2. Later in the afternoon the boys faced a very aggressive Pinecrest Premier team, Weston was ready for the challenge. Demonstrating exceptional skills the boys showed that once this team is determined to do something, there is no stopping them and Weston won by a score of 6-1. The following morning Weston played the Cutler Ridge team and with great team work Weston finished victorious with a score of 6-0. After these three games the team was ready for the final
The Championship match was even more exciting because they would be playing against another Weston team. The U10 Boys Arsenal team had also decided to challenge themselves and play up in the U11 Division 2 bracket. Both coaches new each other pretty well and were extremely happy that both the U10 Boys Manchester United team and the U10 Boys Arsenal teams made it to the finals. Whatever the result, it shows how good Weston players are as a whole. The U10 Boys Manchester United team prevailed and finished the tournament as the champions and the U10 Boys Arsenal finished as Finalists.

WESTON FURY SOCCER CLUB JOINS U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PROGRAM FOR 2009-10 SEASON
April 10, 2009
- Five clubs admitted after most competitive application process in short history of Academy program
- Weston Fury Soccer Club joins 79 other elite clubs in national team training program
CHICAGO (April 7, 2009) – Weston Fury Soccer Club will join the U.S. Soccer Development Academy for the 2009-10 season after the most competitive application process in the young history of the Academy program. With the addition of the five new clubs, eighty total clubs are slated to begin the 2009-10 Academy season.
Joining Weston Fury Soccer Club in the Academy in 2009-10 will be California Development Academy (Sacramento, Calif.), Houston Dynamo (Houston, Texas), Kansas City Wizards Juniors (Kansas City, Mo.), and McLean Youth Soccer (McLean, Va.)
The five Academy clubs were selected from a pool of 250 applicants. Clubs were selected based on their potential to generate future national team players as determined by geographic location, coaching staff, administrative capabilities and national team coach site visits and evaluations. U.S. Soccer has limited the number of clubs admitted into the Academy each year to maintain the highest quality of competition in the program.
Weston Fury Soccer Club Director of Coaching, Carlos Parra, who himself was a member of the U.S. Youth National team and the first Project 40 player to be signed by Major League Soccer, feels the U.S. Soccer Best Practices align perfectly with his Club’s philosophy which focuses on total player development through age appropriate quality training and competition. “We always strive to provide the best opportunities and training for our members and look forward to the increased exposure and level of competition that being a part of the Academy will provide our players.”
Weston Fury Soccer Club’s admittance into the U.S. Soccer Development Academy at the conclusion of its tenth year is quite an accomplishment for such a young club and right in line with the organization’s goals. The club’s vision has been to be a nationally recognized premier soccer program, dedicated to providing its members with experiences to maximize their potential. Weston’s focus will continue to be on player and team development in an atmosphere of high standards, utilizing the first class facilities provided by the City of Weston. Weston Fury Soccer Club is committed to dedicating its time and resources to the long term technical, tactical, physical and psychological development of all its players. Being a part of the Academy will provide pinnacle programming challenging players and staff to continue to develop and excel.
The Academy program was created to enhance the player development environment for elite youth players in the United States, according to U.S. Soccer Best Practices, with specific focus on increasing the number of training sessions, decreasing the total number of games while increasing the number of quality games and maintaining the highest level of coaching, refereeing and competition available in an everyday environment.
Aside from providing clubs with a soccer-centric environment, the Academy program also provides a platform to systematically improve the player identification and development processes. Over half of the Academy matches are attended by a national team scout, resulting in a comprehensive system to evaluate player, coach and referee talent. Academy coaches and athletes also receive video analysis from ProZone, a soccer-specific athletic training curriculum from SPARQ and Nutrition and Hydration recommendations from Gatorade’s Sports Science Institute. The physical capabilities of Academy athletes are measured using SPARQ’s soccer-specific tests and Gatorade’s fluid loss tests.
In its second year, the Academy program has already dramatically impacted the player development process in the United States. In 2008, more than 100 players from Academy clubs were included in U.S. Youth National Teams and almost 800 graduates from the inaugural Academy class participated in college soccer the following fall. Virtually all college programs use the Academy program as a scouting vehicle and the program has received increased attention from professional scouts representing domestic and international clubs.

Alessandra Gonzalez and Victoria Lares from Fury’s U15 Girls Premier team help American Heritage win State Championship
February 13, 2009
Tampa - There was no panic, no fear.
For Plantation's American Heritage; a team that has rallied back from several deficits this season; it didn't matter that time was running down and they needed a score.
The Patriots continued pressing and finally, with 48 seconds left, forward Haleigh Stremanos capitalized.
Stremanos was in the right place to take a shot at an empty net, lifting Heritage to a 2-1 victory over St. Andrew's in a Class 3A state semifinal at Pepin Stadium.
Heritage, which last won a state title in 2005, will play Jacksonville Bolles today for the state championship. Bolles, the defending champion, advanced with a 4-0 victory over Trinity Catholic.
