During this past March, Stephen Enriquez, Weston Board member and coach, attended the Nike Summit 2006 for Premier Soccer Clubs at Nike Worldwide Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The Summit was attended by all 43 US Nike Premier Clubs with the purpose of bringing the best soccer clubs in the United States together to exchange ideas, get to know each other, and help improve youth soccer on a National level.
Sessions were held for both coaches and board members. These sessions included topics on exclusive Nike soccer events, managing player’s yearly calendars, fields and equipment, running tournaments, Nike advertising, summer camps, club administration, retail uniform sales, sports psychology, and fundraising.
Manchester United sent Rene Mulensteen. Mulensteen is the Reserve Team and Skills Development coach. He appears on the Play Like Champions Series and is well known around the world. He provided a very interactive discussion about world soccer and then went into great detail about the Man Utd academy programs. Man Utd academy programs are world famous and these excellent training methods for young player’s and very similar to what Weston Soccer Club will be doing this fall.
Overall it was a amazing experience for the club and it is sure to help the entire club from the academy players to the U18’s.
