The Weston U9 Boys Barcelona Team recorded a stunning sixth straight tournament championship this month, capturing the 2010 Kelme Florida Cup in Naples. This achievement is most remarkable with the fact that the U9 Barcelona Team competed in the U10 B division. In an effort to continue the development of their team, Coach Ivan Alarcon and Asst. Coach Gustavo Vasquez felt the team should compete in a higher age bracket. The decision proved to be a wise one, as these young boys were tested from the onset by teams with greater physical skills and sheer superior size. Ultimately, the talent and determination possessed by the Barcelona team propelled them through three difficult matches. The Barcelona team posted wins against the Kendall, Key Biscayne, and Naples clubs. All wins were earned with very small margins of victory. The final against the Coral Gables Toro Club proved to be a tight battle through the first half, with Weston breaking through and dominating the second half to win the championship. Although the teams posed a difficult challenge, the true opponent was the weather. These young boys played through two of the coldest days of the year with nary a whimper of complaint, a testament to the fortitude and preparation this team has achieved. Congratulations to Weston FC's U9 Boys Barcelona Team, a true reflection of the future of our club. May the streak continue!
