Florida Premier League adds six clubs for 2012-13 season

"We are very excited to have been accepted into the Florida Premier League with such an Elite Group of Clubs throughout the State.

This League will allow Weston FC to continue its focus on Player Development and increase player exposure at the National Level.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 15, 2012)– The Florida Premier League, part ofUS Club Soccer’s National Premier Leagues (NPL), has announced that it will add six new clubs for the 2012-13 season. These new clubs will join five founding members of the Florida Premier League:Brandon FC,Jacksonville United,Orlando City FC (formerly CFK Kraze/Krush),Space Coast United, andTampa Bay United.

The six new clubs joining the Florida Premier League in the U-13 through U-18 boys and girls age groups for the 2012-13 season are:

IMG Academy
Kendall SC
Weston FC

The NPL was created to provide a unified, league-based national developmental platform with the highest level of competition in given geographic areas, and to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape based upon fundamental principles outlined in US Club Soccer’s 10-year vision.

“We are delighted to join other top clubs in Florida as members of this progressive new league system that US Club Soccer has created,” said Eric Eichmann, Director of Boca United / South Florida United Soccer Academy. “The league’s club-based model aligns perfectly with the player development philosophy that our club is based upon. The challenges and opportunities that come from competing with and against the most elite clubs in the state, and ultimately the country through the NPL format, is something that we feel will only further enhance our players’ ability to reach their full potential."

"Year two of the Florida Premier League has the potential to be a first of its kind,” said Eric Dade, Director of Coaching for Jacksonville United. “As you look at the quality of youth clubs that have been assembled throughout the state, and their commitment to overall club and player development, we believe that our talent-rich state is providing its players the best opportunities for success."

“We are very excited about being accepted into the Florida Premier League,” said Mark Chung, Girls Director of Coaching at Boca United / South Florida United Soccer Academy. “This allows us to further develop kids in a club-based philosophy where every kid, young and old, is playing the same Barcelona way. The individual team within a club concept is becoming extinct.”

The inaugural Florida Premier League season is wrapping up, with regular-season champions advancing to the NPL Champions Cup. The culminating event of the NPL season will be held July 27-31 in Waukegan, Ill.

Weston FC Summer Camp 2012

In accordance with Weston FC’s committment to provide players with year round training opportunities we will again be offering a Summer Camp Program. Camp will be at Weston Regional Park and will be led by Technical Directors Carlos Parra and Pat Cordell, with the assistance of several of the highly qualified staff coaches. Camp is OPEN to all players Ages 5 through 18.

Weston FC U12 Girls Nike - Palm Beach Cup Finalists

Under the guidance of Coach Marcelo Valdivia and Assistant Coach Mike Scandizzo, the Weston FC U12 GIrls Nike team competed in the 5th Annual Palm Beach Cup against well known premier teams such as Wellington and Jupiter. The Nike girls battled through three challenging games and earned their spot in the finals! Coach Marcelo complimented the team, telling them, "You have accomplished so much this year. I am proud of you and being your coach has been my honor." Congratulations to the coaches and players. Way to go Weston FC U12 Girls Nike!

Weston FC U16 Girls Premier Blue Triumphs in International Friendly

Parents and players of Weston FC were treated to a fine afternoon of soccer Sunday as the U16 Premier Blue girls downed Complejo del Parque of Rosario, Argentina 3-2. Weston FC came from behind twice on goals by Jenna Guisto and Taylor Farrington, while Marianna Domine’s strike in the final minute provided the game winning goal.

The Girls Premier Program at Weston FC is proud to announce three new members to its coaching staff.

Coach Judah Cooks joins Weston FC from DC United, where he served as the Assistant Director of Youth Development from 2005-2011. During his tenure, academy players recorded 100% college placement in addition to several players graduating into the professional ranks, including 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year Andy Najar. In addition, Coach Judah organized and ran an inner city youth soccer program in Washington DC that grew to involve over 1500 players. Prior to that, Judah played professional soccer for MLS clubs Miami Fusion and DC United. The University of Maryland product was named to the athletic Honor Roll and earned all-ACC and all-American Honors while playing for the Terrapins. Judah was also a member of the US U20 National Team and holds a USSF B Coaching License. Coach Judah will serve as head coach of the U10 Barcelona and U15 Premier teams. His duties will also include overseeing the U11-U15 age groups, providing technical support to the coaching staff and assisting with training and games.

“Having a coach of Judah’s caliber joining the Weston FC coaching staff is a dream come true”, says Carlos Parra, Weston FC’s Technical Director. “He not only brings a wealth of soccer knowledge and experience, his positive attitude and love for teaching the game is infectious to all those around him. He has had success not only as a player but is a proven developer of talent. We are all excited to have Judah on board.”

Coach Jessica Brown comes to Weston from Southern Utah University, where she served as an assistant women’s coach for the NCAA Division I program. A USSF C Licensed coach, Jessica also served as the Executive Director of Neusport Football club from 2009-2011, where she guided the club to ECNL status and operated the Las Vegas Showcase, one of the top girls tournaments in the country. The 2002 Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year, Jessica earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas where she was a 4 year letter winner and 4 time selection to the Conference All-Academic Team. Following her collegiate career, Jessica played in the WPSL from 2003-2005 with the Elk Grove Pride and Tabagators FC. Coach Jessica will lead the Player Development Program in addition to her coaching duties with the U9 Juventus and U17 Premier Blue.

“Coach Jessica’s strong organization skills will help continue the success we have had with our PDP program. She will be a great role model for the younger players and her ability not only to teach the game but to demonstrate is going to have a tremendous impact in our girls program.” – Carlos Parra.

Coach Mercedes Commisso will be head coach of the U10 Inter Milan team as well as assist with the PDP program. She founded the first women’s adult soccer team in Bonita Springs, FL, and helped create the Bonita Springs Mayor’s Cup. During her time in Ft. Myers, she served as a head coach for the girls varsity team at the Gateway Charter School in addition to local youth teams. Mercedes earned a USSF C Coaching License and holds a degree in Sports Physiology. Coach Mercedes served as Task Coordinator at the Argentinean National Biomechanics Laboratory and also ran her own Sports Biomechanics center in Buenos Aires from 1990-1997. A former soccer and field hockey player, Mercedes also played for Club Independiente women’s team in 1994.

“Coach Mercedes brings a unique multi-sport discipline to the club. Her expertise in both soccer and sports physiology will be a great asset to the girls program,” - Carlos Parra.

FIU Head Women's Coach, Thomas Chestnutt's clinic a great success

Florida International University Womens Soccer Team's Head Coach, Thomas Chestnutt, held a clinic this passed Monday, May 7th, at 8pm at Vista Park on field #2. We appreciated Coach Chesnutt providing the girls the opportunity and experience of a college type training session. The clinic was open to all U16-18, it was limited to just 30 active participants. The ladies learned a lot about college organized drills and had a great time with the coach. We would like to thank Coach Chestnutt for his time in making this a wonderful experience.

Weston FC U16 Girls Premier Black Move On To Championship Round Of State Cup

The Weston FC U16 Girls Premier Black team had a very successful State Cup weekend in Palm Coast.

In the Challenge Round of 16 the Weston team won a hard-fought match 1-0 against the Tampa Bay team in overtime. In the Quarter Final match the girls defeated the Clearwater Chargers 2-0. The team advances to the State Cup Final Four weekend held May 19 and 20 in Auburndale.

Weston FC U11 Girls - 3v3 Finalists

Weston FC's U11 Girls finished as Finalists in the 3v3 tournament played in Miramar on May 12. Team Wambaugh, from the U11 Premier group, played a close final match concluding the event as Finalists. The girls played hard and battled well established teams from different areas.
