Weston FC Pre-Academy Announcement 2010-11 Season
April 26, 2010

Weston FC Pre-Academy Development teams:

U-15 (Players born after Jan. 1,1996) to be coached by Victor Musa

U-16 (Players Born after Jan. 1, 1995) to be coached by Marcello Neveleff

By Invitation Only: As part of the DA evaluation process, Marcello Neveleff and Victor Musa will be inviting all age appropriate players to participate in Pre-Academy practices. In June, there will be open tryouts for everyone, where the final player decisions will be made. This invitation should be considered another great opportunity for your son to be seen by the DA staff, a way for our Staff to ensure they make the most informed decision. These practices are by invitation; the list of players invited will vary from practice to practice, until the DA Staff have seen every age appropriate player. Please refer all questions to Marcello Neveleff (gneveleff@aol.com) and Victor Musa (vimusa@aol.com).

The Pre-Academy Development team is designed only for the most serious and committed soccer player. Due to the tremendous success of the current 1995 Pre-Academy Developmental team, the Staff at Weston FC have added another age group to the Program. The Primary purpose of the launching of this Program, is the preparation of these players for the USSF Development Academy, run by Weston FC. The US Soccer Federation has several standards which our current Development Academy teams must adhere to, these mandates are also at the core principals of the Pre-Academy teams.

  • Every player MUST attend every practice, team function and soccer game.
  • All eligible soccer players (selected by calendar year) must play for Weston FC. All outside soccer related activities, must be preapproved by the Director's of the Academy, Marcello Neveleff.
  • All players will start at least 30% of all games. The goal is player development, not winning trophies.
  • Four practices per week, one will be strength and conditioning. Game and tournament scheduling will be controlled by the director of the Academy. The goal here is better quality events, friendlies and games, not more.
  • Current scheduling options include; USSF Friendlies, Region III Premier, Dallas Cup, CASL, Disney Showcase, and other Development Academy younger teams.
  • For 2009/10 season, the Pre-Academy team had 3 Friendlies against the current USSF U-15 Boys and U-17 Girls National teams. There were 4 players invited to USSF National Camps from Weston FC.
  • A special congratulations to Weston FC Academy players and coaches. All U-17/18 Development Academy high school seniors were placed or received scholarships from different Colleges through out the US.

WESTON FURY SOCCER CLUB JOINS U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PROGRAM FOR 2009-10 SEASON
April 10, 2009

  • Five clubs admitted after most competitive application process in short history of Academy program
  • Weston Fury Soccer Club joins 79 other elite clubs in national team training program

CHICAGO (April 7, 2009) – Weston Fury Soccer Club will join the U.S. Soccer Development Academy for the 2009-10 season after the most competitive application process in the young history of the Academy program. With the addition of the five new clubs, eighty total clubs are slated to begin the 2009-10 Academy season.

Joining Weston Fury Soccer Club in the Academy in 2009-10 will be California Development Academy (Sacramento, Calif.), Houston Dynamo (Houston, Texas), Kansas City Wizards Juniors (Kansas City, Mo.), and McLean Youth Soccer (McLean, Va.)

The five Academy clubs were selected from a pool of 250 applicants. Clubs were selected based on their potential to generate future national team players as determined by geographic location, coaching staff, administrative capabilities and national team coach site visits and evaluations. U.S. Soccer has limited the number of clubs admitted into the Academy each year to maintain the highest quality of competition in the program.

Weston Fury Soccer Club Director of Coaching, Carlos Parra, who himself was a member of the U.S. Youth National team and the first Project 40 player to be signed by Major League Soccer, feels the U.S. Soccer Best Practices align perfectly with his Club’s philosophy which focuses on total player development through age appropriate quality training and competition. “We always strive to provide the best opportunities and training for our members and look forward to the increased exposure and level of competition that being a part of the Academy will provide our players.”

Weston Fury Soccer Club’s admittance into the U.S. Soccer Development Academy at the conclusion of its tenth year is quite an accomplishment for such a young club and right in line with the organization’s goals. The club’s vision has been to be a nationally recognized premier soccer program, dedicated to providing its members with experiences to maximize their potential. Weston’s focus will continue to be on player and team development in an atmosphere of high standards, utilizing the first class facilities provided by the City of Weston. Weston Fury Soccer Club is committed to dedicating its time and resources to the long term technical, tactical, physical and psychological development of all its players. Being a part of the Academy will provide pinnacle programming challenging players and staff to continue to develop and excel.

The Academy program was created to enhance the player development environment for elite youth players in the United States, according to U.S. Soccer Best Practices, with specific focus on increasing the number of training sessions, decreasing the total number of games while increasing the number of quality games and maintaining the highest level of coaching, refereeing and competition available in an everyday environment.

Aside from providing clubs with a soccer-centric environment, the Academy program also provides a platform to systematically improve the player identification and development processes. Over half of the Academy matches are attended by a national team scout, resulting in a comprehensive system to evaluate player, coach and referee talent. Academy coaches and athletes also receive video analysis from ProZone, a soccer-specific athletic training curriculum from SPARQ and Nutrition and Hydration recommendations from Gatorade’s Sports Science Institute. The physical capabilities of Academy athletes are measured using SPARQ’s soccer-specific tests and Gatorade’s fluid loss tests.

In its second year, the Academy program has already dramatically impacted the player development process in the United States. In 2008, more than 100 players from Academy clubs were included in U.S. Youth National Teams and almost 800 graduates from the inaugural Academy class participated in college soccer the following fall. Virtually all college programs use the Academy program as a scouting vehicle and the program has received increased attention from professional scouts representing domestic and international clubs.
