Attaining a 5-1-3 season record (20 goals for and 7 goals against), the Weston U-16 Boys Nike team ranked third in their group going into the SFU playoffs. In the four-team bracket the Nike team went 1-0-2 beating Weston Premier and tying Boca and Renegades. Progressing on to the knock out stage, they were second in their group. Working cleverly as a unit Weston shut-out West Pines 1-0 asserting themselves as top contenders. Facing the final match with the confidence of champions, playing splendidly with magnificent strategies Weston dominated South Florida Elite clenching the coveted championship title. This grueling final was buffeted by strong winds but with complicating ball control from players and an especially strong defense from Weston's goal keeper, Franco Cevenini; and a stroke of brilliance from Jose Furman in the form of a clever angled shot, the Nike boys tied the match almost at the conclusion of regulation time. During overtime Weston sealed their victory with a gloriously piercing shot by Juan Vera. Weston U16 Nike boys have evolved into a force to be reckoned with displaying team skills and strategies that will carry them well into State Cup.
