Plantation Thanksgiving Tournament Report

The U11 Premier Boys had more than just Turkey for Thanksgiving.  At this years Plantation Thanksgiving Tournament there were 14 teams playing in U11 Division 1, with several teams from other regions in Florida.

The appetizers for Premier were the Kendal Collation White team who had a tough time staying with Premier early as Weston scored a couple of goals quickly and end the first half 3-0. Kendal kept battling the whole game, but only had a few trips into the Weston box of which they were able to convert one ending the game with a 5-1 score “Pass the salad dressing please”.

The next course for Weston was a strong Strictly Soccer team from Tampa.  This was a night game with several opportunities for each team, with several goal post being hit and a lot of finger nails being bit.  But at the end of the game a phenomenal performance by both goalies resulted in them “stuffing” the offense and posting clean sheets 0-0.  This was a good wake up call for Premier to let them know that they can not show up late for dinner and expect to have dessert, the game is played on the field and not on paper.  “Pass the TUMS, getting a little heart burn”.

With gravy poured on the mashed potatoes and playing a West Pines U10 team that had won both of their games Premier had to win this third game in pool play to move up from the kids table to the big boys table.  West Pines U10 turned out to be a worthy opponent and demonstrated that they would play tough for the duration of the game, but Weston showed what difference a year could make and shut down the West Pines offence while asking for “extra helpings” at the West Pines goal with the game ending 4-0 “Pass the cranberry sauce, please”.

Moving up to the big table were Weston Premier, Naples, Team Boca and Three Lions. Premier drew the Three Lions from Melbourne as their opponent in the Semi Finals and would tackle the top team from Region B in an early morning start.  Three Lions were well coached and disciplined, but were unable to keep pace with the Fury as they spread the field and controlled most of the possession of the game.  With the Lions only having one sub, Premier wore them down and closed the game with a 3-1 victory. “Pass the whipped cream.”

Now that the hardware was on the table the Fury wanted Pumpkin Pie not Humble Pie for dessert, but would have to make sure that Team Boca did not have alternate plans.  Team Boca came into the final with a 2-1 victory over Naples and had not lost a game during the tournament thus riding a wave of confidence.  Unfortunately that confidence would not help Boca much as Weston dominated the final and came away with a 5-1 victory, a full stomach, and more hardware to remember the occasion.  “I am stuffed, pass the remote”.
