UPDATE...US Youth Soccer National League at the Weston Cup Soccer Tournament

The US Youth Soccer National League adds the Weston Cup as a play weekend. The US Youth Soccer National League competition is for the nation’s top teams in the Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 boys and girls age groups, consisting of a total of eight teams per gender age group. The National League offers additional exposure to collegiate, professional and U.S. National Team coaches and offers top notch competition. National League teams continue play in their respective US Youth Soccer State Championships and Regional Leagues, as well.

Teams play a seven-game schedule facing each team within its age group one time. The League consists of six weekends of play, with the first two being held in conjunction with the Men’s and Women’s NCAA College Cup.

The top two teams, from each age group, advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships, and the top four teams, from each age group, secure a spot to return to National League play the following season.

Florida ODP #1 in the Southeast
Record number of 107 players named to Region III Pool
53 players in National Pools
In 2009 we had a record year in terms of players from our Florida Youth Soccer Association ODP State Teams.  The main purpose remained at regional camp was to promote our players the best we could at Region III camp in Alabama so they may be selected to the Region III pools.  At our regional camps in July, we had a record 107 players make the Region III pool for ages 1992-1996.  Our 93 and 94 boys and girls teams qualified for the Region III ODP Championships in January.  We also have 53 FYSA players with Full or Youth National Teams.

The Olympic Development Program for the 2009-2010 is charged with identifying and training the best players Florida has to offer between the birth years 1993-1997.  It is an elite program designed to identify the elite players.  To that end a player may be identified through two areas: trials and scouting.  There is a great amount of cooperation between our staff, the US Youth Region staff and US soccer in identifying and evaluating players.

This year we will be identifying the top 54-72 players in the state both boys and girls in the 1996 and 1997 age groups.  We form 3 to 4 teams from this pool to train and compete at the Region III.  The 93-95 players will have their trials in the spring of 2010.  They will be exposed to the top state, region, college, and national team coaches throughout this process.

The calendar for this year includes trials, training, and competitions. The trial process is the first step.  We will have four trials around the state this fall and players are eligible to try out at any of the four dates and sites.  The application can be found at www.fysa.com under ODP.  The application postmark deadline is September 15th.

Goal to Goal - Fury U10 Boys Teams take it to the Finals
October 19, 2008
ONE CLUB TAKES IT TO THE FINALS!

With the new season quickly approaching, both U10 Boys Divsion 1 teams, Manchester United, and Arsenal, enter the Goal to Goal Soccer Tournament this past weekend in Boca Raton, Florida.  Being placed in separate brackets, both teams played with focus and determination, defeating each team game by game.  After each win, each team, inched closer and closer to the finals.  By the afternoon of the second day, and one more game to win, it was a matter of hours before both of Weston’s U10 teams would meet in the finals. On Sunday, both Manchester and Arsenal arrived with one focus-- the finals.  Both teams, once again defeated their opponent, each securing their spot in the finals.  Manchester and Arsenal both placed first in their group and it was on to the Championship game.

With so much success, One club in the finals was going to prove to be a spectacular show of skill.  Each team, focused and ready to play.  Both Weston coaches perched on the sidelines, the game began.  Each team driven by a compassion for soccer, displayed phenomenal skill on the field.  Manchester scores, Arsenal scores and a 1-1 game for now.  Manchester scores again, Arsenal scores again and the game is 2-2.  Each team consistently showing their skills, and their hearts on the field, battling eachother, and each refusing to give up until the whistle blew. The game went on in two 5 minute overtime periods, each player remained driven and consistent.  At the very end of the second overtime period Manchester scores winning the game 3-2.

With such an outstanding performance from both teams, the accomplishment alone, for two of Weston’s teams to meet in the finals proves that both are contenders.  Congratulations to both team’s players, for a job well done, as we were and are just ONE club!
