A Letter from the V.P. of Girls Program
Fury Girls Program Parents and Players:
A short time ago you received my introduction to the Club as the Vice President of the Girls Program. That communication referenced a plan for a comprehensive review of our Girls Program as well as details for the first stage of strategic improvements. Since that time we have seen evidence of changes that serve to foreshadow robust modifications for the upcoming year. During the past eight weeks Carlos Parra our Director of Coaching and Gui Gui Ferreria our Girls Program Director, have orchestrated a supplemental program of technical sessions (“technical rotation”) for all of our teams. This type of commitment to technical proficiency will be the hallmark of our renewed commitment to achieve the highest level of competitiveness for our Girls Program. Additionally, this period has seen both player and coach evaluations. Our coaches have undergone a comprehensive review process conducted by our Technical Directors. Our Program Director has a vision of high excellence and exceptional technical proficiency for our girls and we have already begun a thoughtful and deliberate process to achieve that end. The WFC Girls Program has a history rich with accomplishments. We are committed to demonstrating our respect to the great players who have worn our uniform in the past, and to our current and future players, by challenging ourselves to compete successfully at the highest level.
In keeping with my intention to maintain concurrent communication with our parents and players this update will be one in a series of e-mails and web postings re: developments and progress. Below are some notes relating to “on the field” developments that I thought might be of particular interest:
· We are institutionalizing the above referenced “technical rotation” beginning with the upcoming season. Our highly accomplished technical instructors will be conducting fundamental and position-specific training sessions. Players will have a third weekly session that emphasizes technical proficiency and encourages creativity.
· The girls will have three comprehensive evaluations per season. These evaluations will include both observations and a “training prescription” - drills to address the player’s areas identified for improvement.
· We will be coordinating cross training sessions with our boys’ teams. The Boys Program will be supporting our side by making their teams available to provide our girls the opportunity to test their execution in a highly competitive match environment.
· All of our coaches will participate in an ongoing formalized evaluation process.
· Games strategy and execution will be observed and analyzed on a regularly scheduled basis by one of the technical directors.
The foregoing are but a few of the modifications we are making for the benefit of our children. My next communication will detail the tremendous impact that our Club’s recent acceptance as a United States Soccer Development Academy Program member will have on our Girls’ Program. We are extremely proud that the WFC was one of only five clubs accepted, out of 250 applying for this high distinction. It is our intention that our Girls Program will be “fully prepared” when the U.S. Soccer Federation roles out a Girls’ version of the Academy Program.
Best regards –
