draws to a close in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 3, 2010)  A total of 64 female players born in 1994-95-96 recently took the field in front of USSF National Team staff and numerous college coaches for a four-day id2 National Training Camp as part of US Club Soccers national identification and development program.

The event, held in conjunction with the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), took place Feb. 26-March 1, 2010, at Vista Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

A video recap from the camp is available at usclubsoccer.org.

The college coaches in attendance represented various conferences, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big East Conference and SEC.

The three main things that we hope the players take out of the camp are, first and foremost, we hope that it was a fun experience for them  that they feel challenged as players and that they feel challenged as people, said Rory Dames, US Club Soccers id2 Girls Program Director. And theyll be able to take information from the coaches, the nutritionist and anybody else that spoke to them and gave them information this weekend, and not only be able to take that back into their worlds as soccer players but also as people and continue to grow.

The second thing is the friendships that the players make each other here from different parts of the country, Dames added. And the third thing would be the life lessons that you learn when youre in uncomfortable situations and asked to do things with people who you dont know and figuring out how to achieve things together without having somebody tell you how to do it.

A total of 39 different clubs were represented among the attending players. Of the 64 players, 36 were born in 1994, 23 in 1995 and 5 in 1996.

This is a high level, said id2 staff coach Scott McDoniel. This is exciting for me to be a part of because there are some talented players here.

Players were invited into this id2 National Training Camp via one of three ways:
  • The best players from the fall 2009 id2 Regional Training Camps were invited
  • Approximately 30 players were invited as a result of the ECNL Player Identification Program
  • The remaining players were selected from the general recommended player pool

Its a great benefit to the kids obviously anytime you can get all of the best kids at the same camp, said id2 staff coach Doug Bracken. I think you always get better by playing with better players and against better players. And I also think the players can leave here and [say], these are the players that I now measure myself against. So if I want to be at the top level I have to be able to compete with those top players.

The camp served as an additional opportunity for the best female players from the fall 2009 id2 Regional Training Camps to be exposed to U.S. Soccer National Team staff while also providing an initial opportunity for first-time attendees.

Three Regional Training Camps for boys born in 1996-97 and girls born in 1995-96 were also held in this past fall.

About id2[id2 Fact Sheet]
Established in 2004, US Club Soccers id2 national identification and development program provides an opportunity for the countrys top youth talent to be identified and developed for possible inclusion in U.S. Soccers National Team programs.

id2 Training Camps are invitation-only events that bring together the nations top male and female youth players for four days of competition, evaluation and fun. Players are invited to participate as a result of an extensive scouting and recommendation program in which players throughout the country are identified in their own familiar training and game environment as they compete with their club teams. Affiliated and unaffiliated players are able to be recommended.

U.S. Soccer National Team staff as well as other elite coaches and players attend id2 Training Camps. In addition to the on-field sessions, id2 Training Camps feature guest speakers, lectures/classroom sessions and other offerings, which make for a complete experience.

Aided by their time at US Club Soccers id2 Training Camps, numerous attendees of past camps have advanced into U.S. Soccers National Team programs.

There is no cost to be included in the id2 program. In addition, the only cost to players selected for an id2 Training Camp is travel to and from the venue. Lodging, meals and training gear are provided by US Club Soccer and Nike.

Those interested are able to visit the id2 Web page for more information on the organizations national identification and development program.
