Road to State Cup begins with SQL Round 1
The Weston Fury U13 girl’s team advanced to the State Cup round of 16 this past weekend at FAU by going 1-0-1 and finishing first in group play. The Fury opened play on Saturday by tying Team Boca 1-1. This was a tremendous result for the Fury as Team Boca is considered one of the top teams in the State. Ashley Oswald opened the scoring the first half with a shot from 25 yards out, giving the Fury a 1-0 lead at halftime. The second half saw Team Boca come out and really push the tempo and they were able to equalize mid-way through the second half. The two teams battled the rest of the way but neither team could score the winner.
On Sunday, the Fury played very inspired and defeated the Renegades 3-0 allowing them to finish first in the group. Jennifer Chester opened the scoring for the Fury with 30 seconds to go in the first half on a cross from the flank. The second half the Fury had the wind at their backs and dominated the rest of the match. Ashley Mathews and Gabi Martinez were able to score second half goals increasing the lead to 1-0.
Defensively, Jessica Kilbride, Maggie Piper, Shante Chevannes played very solid all weekend.
The Fury now awaits word on the location and draw for the round of 16 to be played on May 14 & 15th.
