WFSC 92/93 Continues Growth at CASL Shootout

The Weston Fury 92/93 Girls’ Premier team traveled to the prestigious CASL Shootout Tournament this past weekend, November 4-6 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Fury opened play on Saturday morning against the Kentucky State Champs, LFC Premier. The two teams were evenly matched and played to a scoreless draw at halftime. The Fury came out inspired in the second half and dominated play for the opening ten minutes. The Fury was rewarded for their hard work with a goal in the 10th minute off a throw-in to take a 1-0 lead. The Fury goal seem to inspire LFC Premier as they then took control of the match and scored two goals to take a 2-1 lead midway through the second half. The Fury had an excellent opportunity to tie the match in the final five minutes but a header off a throw-in sailed over the goal and LFC Premier was able to hang on for the 2-1 victory.

The second match on Saturday was played against W-S Twins from North Carolina. The Fury would take out there earlier frustrations and roll to a 4-1 victory.

The final group game was played on Sunday and the Fury would post a convincing 2-0 victory over the Rage from Maryland.

The Fury finished with 2 wins and a loss in group play but not advance to the Championship match due to the loss to LFC Premier, who would win the Tournament. Despite not advancing the tournament proved to be very beneficial to the team.  3 very well played games against some great competition despite not being able to train as a team the past 3 weeks due to the hurricane. The team has found that no matter what group you are placed in at these high level tournament you are always going to get quality opponents and good games. We found a team in LFC Premier that was physically bigger and stronger than us and also very comfortable with the ball at there feet.

We competed very well, all of the girls we able to receive quality playing time and did well. We found some things that we need to work on and obviously the time off did not help us.

The Fury is back in action this weekend, traveling to Orlando for Florida Champions League play and then also has matches scheduled in the FLUGSA league before participating in the Orange Classic in December.
