Premier Girls make it Two In a Row at Plantation

After winning the West Pines Kick Off the Fury 94/95 Premier Girls had the taste of victory fresh in their mouths. However different opposition would prove to present new challenges for the team at the Plantation Thanksgiving Classic but the outcome would prove to be the same.

The opening game was stopped after 40 minutes of play with the score at 9-0. “These situations are difficult as a coach but you never want to mess with the mentality of winning and the desire this girls have for it” said Assistant Coach Riccardo Fassi.

Game two saw a very different match against the newly formed Parkland Predators. The Fury started strong and took an early 1-0 lead and continued to pressure the resilient Parkland defense. However 8 minutes of poor concentration saw Parkland grab two of three opportunities to take a 2-1 lead into half time. The Fury came out strong again and deservedly got the equalizer they sort. Having learnt their lesson from   the first half they maintained their focus and came away with a tie. “This was a good lesson for our girls. We lost concentration and against good quality opponents it will cost you. I always felt we would get at least a draw even though we where a goal behind and that point put us in the driving seat going into the final match” Said Head Coach Alan Foy.

The final preliminary round game as in most tournaments proved to be decisive. The Fury new a 3-0 victory would make any other results irrelevant, but the true key to qualification was in not conceding any goals. The game was won in style with the exact score line required, 3-0 to secure a place in the final against hosts, Plantation once again.

The conditions for the final where very windy and prove a challenge for both teams. The result of this final was the same as two weeks prior with the Fury becoming Champions with a 2-0 victory.

“When I look at the past three weeks of the play the one component of our play that pleases me the most is our defending. We have played 9 games and only conceded 5 goals despite having some very good competition”. Stated Head Coach Alan Foy
