The Fury 94/95 Premier made it a hat trick of victories winning the Weston Invitational over Presidents Day weekend. Having won the West Pines Kick Off Classic and the Plantation Thanksgiving tournaments and having set the pace in league play the Fury are the team to beat in South Florida. The competition was tough with all the local teams showing that they too have improved. The visit of IUS from Orlando provided some tough fresh competition for teams also.
WFSC started the tournament with a 0-0 draw against a resilient Team Boca. In their second game they met Plantation and worked hard to gain a 1-0 victory and in the final Preliminary game they won 2-0 against West Pines. Having collected 7 points from the initial stages of the competition the Fury where still not guaranteed qualification to the final such was the level of competition in the U11 Premier bracket. With Miramar Strikers securing 3 points against IUS it meant Weston would face the Strikers in the final a match up that had not occurred in regular season play.
The final was a well contested affair with the decisive goal coming from some excellent decision making by the Fury goalkeeper Victoria Lares. Having just saved point blank Lares immediately started the attack with Andrea Fassi opening up and playing the ball into the forward Andriena Sifontes who anticipated the opportunity. Sifontes traveled at pace and tucked the ball home to secure victory.
Coach Foy said “The most pleasing aspects of our play this weekend where that we never conceded a goal and that we are starting to understand how and when to move off the ball”.
The team did a terrific job this weekend and special mentions should go to Heather Marsh, who despite being injured in our first game came all weekend and supported the team. KK for agreeing to help the club and play for the U12 Swoosh when they where short of players. To Cassandra, our guest player for becoming a better player for the experience. And lastly to our defenders Natalia and Ruthie and Goalkeeper Victoria for not conceding a goal all weekend long!!
This truly was a team performance!!!! Well Done Girls
