After winning the Region A Cup two weeks ago, the U15 Nike Girls made the trip north to Lake Myrtle to participate in the State’s President’s Cup.
In the semi final, the girls faced Region B’s winner, South Orlando SC. Without any substitutes, the girls came out strong, dominated early play with possession and jumped out to an early 1-0. With halftime approaching, the girls then capitalized on a corner kick opportunity, deflecting in their second goal, and took a 2-0 lead into the break.
South Orlando came out very strong in the second half and scored a goal midway through to cut their deficit in half. After withstanding the South Orlando pressure, the girls regained their possession game and countered with their third goal with ten minutes left, effectively ending the game. The 3-1 final was well played and well deserved.
In Sunday’s final, the girls faced Sarasota FC, who beat Ormond Beach FC the day before. The teams were very well matched in every respect, each having a few chances throughout a scoreless first half. In the second half, the play continued to be balanced until Sarasota scored midway through the half. After the goal, the girls regained their energy and picked up their game, creating several scoring chances. In the last ten minutes the girls dominated play, putting many shots on goal but eventually time ran out and they came up short, 1-0.
Despite the loss in a game that could have gone either way, the girls had a great run and a great season. Weston FC is very proud of their accomplishments as they are the only team in the club that made the President’s Cup Finals.
Congratulations to Coach Jose and all the girls for their success and thanks for representing Weston FC in such a professional manner.
