Weston FC Premier completed the FLUGSA Season with an impressive 8 Wins, 2 Ties, and no Losses in the White Division while scoring 19 goals and only allowing two. Their regular season success earned the girls the right to play in the FLUGSA Playoffs and the team did not let the opportunity go untested. This year’s field locations were Dyer Park and Seminole Palms Park in West Palm Beach, Florida. Once again an early wake-up call for a 9 am match. Weather in this game was a factor caused by a slight cold front moving through this part of Florida causing some wintery style rain and making field conditions one more obstacle for the girls.
Weston FC started the match versus Naples Sharks with only 9 players on the pitch but was able to score an early goal off of a corner kick. The poor field conditions provided a hard to control bounce, but Haley was able to settle it and kick it in for the opening goal. About 10 minutes into the game the tenth player was able to enter the match but the team was still one player down. The Weston FC defense led by Kylie with support from Julissa, Sydney and Lauren were able to hold off the attack of the Sharks. After one half, Weston FC (1) - Naples Sharks (0). Coach Renwick was able to provide the girls with a motivating halftime speech and Weston FC came out strong in the second half. Alyssa and Monique were able to offer Mid-Field support and Nicole scored the second goal of the match. The girls from Naples did not give up and using the wind to their advantage were able to push forward and score two goals to tie the match. After two scoreless 5 minute overtime periods, kicks from the penalty mark would have to decide the outcome of this hard fought game. Weston FC Goalie Vanessa was able to block two shots and Naples shot high on one of their opportunities. Kylie and Sydney scored on Weston’s first two while the team’s third and fourth shots were missed. The final and decisive shot was netted by Nicole and Weston FC advanced to the FLUGSA Championship. In the other Semifinal Match, Cutler Ridge SC Panthers were able to defeat Miami Lakes Soccer Club and have a chance to find out if the third time would be the charm against Weston FC.
The Final would prove to be a match suited for Champions. Both squads had only 11 players and no bench. Weston FC was able to score early in the 8th minute. Monique took a shot from close in that went wide and Kylie collected the ball and finished with a shot to the near corner. Cutler Ridge had a scoring opportunity off of a corner kick but Weston FC Goalie Vanessa was able to punch the ball away from her area and the Weston defense led by Julie on this occasion was able to clear the ball out of any danger. Forward Sophia had scoring opportunities but the Cutler Ridge Goalie saved several of her shots. After an intense game the early goal from Kylie proved to be enough to seal the match.
Once again CONGRATULATIONS to Dale Renwick and the Weston FC 97/98 Premier U13 Girls for their successful FLUGSA Season and for their performance in the FLUGSA Championship.
WESTON FC 97/98 Premier U13 Girls CHAMPIONS of the FLUGSA White Division.
