Fury U9 Girls Red Continue To Thrive

The Fury U9 girls red team first match saw them get off to a slow start against Lady Makos loosing 3-1. However the team started to come together and began to play like a team creating scoring opportunities.

The second match of the day was vs. TCU.  The Fury U9 Girls came out strong and played with tremendous confidence and poise only to be down at half time 2-1. However, in the second half our girls took off scoring five goals.  The final score was 6-2 in our favor. The team played outstanding defense and took advantage of every scoring opportunity. Coach Merino said “It was a tremendous team effort and a true reflection of the potential of this team”.

In third game vs. the Lady Hurricanes who were unbeaten in the tournament the Fury put on a very solid team performance. The Fury had several chances to score but the Hurricanes goalkeeper was in the right spot each time and had some help from the goal posts on several occasions.  The decisive goal in this exciting 1-0 game came for the Hurricanes from a goal - mouth scramble. The Lady Hurricanes went on to win the Championship.

Byron Merino coach of the U9 girls red team said ”I am extremely proud of the effort by our girls.  This was the first tournament experience for our team and was a great opportunity to play against some strong teams from outside our immediate area.  This experience allowed the girls to raise their level of play and will help us to continue developing the players.”
