Fury U9 Girls Development Continues at FLUgSA Playoffs
The Fury U9 girls blue academy team battled through the weekend in the FLUGSA playoffs as seed and won the championship against a gallant West Pines United in overtime.
The U9 girls defeated Palm Beach Academy in their first playoff game with goals each scored by Jennifer Defaria, Taylor Coley, Sari Kreutzer and Hannah Glick. Brooke Lazarus, Lauren Crook and Alison Price excelled on defense.
The Fury then met the Renegades, and defeated them 3-1 in their semi-final game. Taylor Coley scored the Fury's opening goal off of a long pass by Lauren Crook. The Renegades later tied the game. Stellar goalkeeping by Hannah Glick kept the Renegades from going ahead before a furious attack led to the Fury taking the lead. With 5 minutes remaining in the game, Kreutzer scored the goal to ice the game.
The girls then played West Pines United in the Finals. The girls were psyched and Kopecki arrived to provide the players much needed rest as they had been playing shorthanded. The Fury scored early off of a quality corner kick by Lauren Crook which Taylor Coley buried into the back of the net with her mighty right foot. However West Pines played with great heart and determination and later tied the game. After many scoring opportunities the Fury finally cashed in when Sari Kreutzer passed the ball to a crossing Jennifer Defaria to put the Fury ahead. But yet again West Pines with their never give up attitude tied the game and overtime was necessary. In the opening minutes of the overtime, Alison Price a.k.a “Pricey”, one of the Fury's star defenders throughout the tournament, stepped up to take a penalty kick which she calmly placed into the back of the net for the win. The Fury is coached through an academy environment which emphasizes team play and learning all positions.
Welcome to the Weston Soccer Club Academy. This program is for U9 and U10 players and is the key to the Fury's program on going success. We are committed to the development of our players and whether they go on to earn a college scholarship, play professionally or improve through the Fury ranks to become a stalwart of a team our dedication to the individuals progress will never waiver.
Dave Simeone and Sandy Davison over-see the Fury academy development programs. Teams practice once week together, once as a team and further developmental opportunities are provided on a regular basis through programs such as Fury Play Days. Other opportunities include Cross Training, Girls VS Boys scrimmages and individuals or teams being selected to train with an older team on occasion.
We are very proud of our academy, presently we have approx 90 players in the program and aim for this to grow to 200 in the future because the focus is on striking a balance between technical development and winning.
