In regular league play the U12 boys blue play up in SFU's U13 Division and thus this was a great opportunity to play 11v11 in their own age group. Having recently won their division at Raleigh Cup Weston u12's again came through victorious and with a 1-0 win versus Boca Juniors in fast moving opening game. Peter Roberts got free near the end of the first half to score an unassisted goal that stood as the game winner at 1-0.
The Barracudas from Maitlaind, FL took an early 1-0 lead against the Fury in the second match. But Matteo Fischer scored twice in a two-minute span. The first came from a diving header off a cross by Valimaa and the second on a solo run through the heart of the Maitland backline to make it 2-1. Fischer almost made it 3-1 with a goal 2 minutes later but the referee rules he was off sides. “Mateo’s second goal was a demonstration of his athletic ability combined with his ability to score” U12 Coach Jerry Willenborgh said, “there are times, in his own age group that he can impact the game individually”. The game settled at 2-1 in the end for Weston.
The third match in Plantation saw Weston win to the tune of 7-0 against a Cape Coral side. “The challenge for us as coaches is to create performance objectives in games like this so that the score, the result isn’t misinterpreted” Dave Simeone, WFSC Technical Director said, “Keeping these results in perspective is important so that reality doesn’t slip away from us”
As always any West Pines – Weston match up is a great contest. Alec Lowell and Tomas Granitto got first half tallies. Pines got back into the game after Weston Goal Keeper Brian Sylvestre was in a collision with a West Pines player. Weston conceded a goal but Sylvestre and a host of Weston players clawed their way back to control the game. This was after a red card for WFSC meaning Weston U12’s play through the remainder of the match with 10 men in order to secure the 2-1 win.
The final was played against Southern Soccer team that was athletic and competitive. Mateo Fischer made it 1-0 off a solo effort and Veneri Valimaa made it 2-0 in the second half off a rebound.
Congrats to the Weston U12 boy’s Blue team!
